We are currently hiring a Temporary Full-Time to join our team. This position will offer you a competitive wage, paid orientation and on-going professional development opportunities. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Work collaboratively with BSO and care teams with non-pharm strategies/approaches to manage behaviours
    • Meal assistance and resident dining support as assigned
    • Non-pharm resident safety plan development, support, and monitoring
    • Support unstructured “neighborhood time” (Montessori/sensory) approaches to engagement on assigned terrace
    • Actively participate and/or contribute virtually at resident care meetings and other resident specific discussions (PIECES, SOS, risk management, care conferences, falls committee, etc.)
    • Support accurate DOS charting and progress notes to support behavior management
    • Support high risk new admissions and work collaboratively with recreation programmer assigned to terrace
    • Maintain appropriate resident and department records including MDS-RAI documentation, RT assessments, tracking of individual participation through Activity PRO, and other documentation required
    • Other departmental duties/coverage as assigned

 Requirements:

    • College diploma in Recreation or Gerontology as a field of study from an Ontario postsecondary institution or a postsecondary diploma, degree or certificate granted from another jurisdiction that the home reasonably believes is equivalent. May require post graduate Therapeutic Recreation Certificate and/or equivalent. 
    • Strong knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease, and other dementias, as well as other chronic health challenges (e.g. MS, Parkinsons, stroke, mental illness…)
    • Proven ability to design therapeutic recreation programs.
    • GPA-Gentle Persuasive Approach in Dementia Care
    • Above average empathetic, listening and reflective skills.
    • Strong leadership skills that are customer-service focussed in keeping with the "Care Culture" of St. Peter's Residence at chedoke.
    • Well developed time management, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities
    • Competent personal computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office…)
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Personal Characteristics: 

  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to facilitate and engage persons with dementia.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently and as a team player.
  • Able to meet physical requirements necessary to carry out job effectively, which include: lifting, standing for extended lengths of time, walking, bending, crouching, and kneeling at regular frequencies throughout shift.

  • Must be knowledgeable of the Resident Bill of Rights and endeavour to promote it.
  • Must support MOHLTC-Ministry of Health Long Term Care standards, as well as the policies and procedures of St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke and departmental policies and procedures
