We are currently hiring 1 Temporary Part-Time Recreation Programmer to join our team. This position will offer you a competitive wage, paid orientation and on-going professional development opportunities. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate resident focused therapeutic recreation programs/interventions throughout the home on assigned terrace

  • Deal tactfully with residents, resident’s families, and visitors, as well as with all health care team members
  • Strong focus on customer service excellence in the delivery of recreation initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with other recreation team members in the planning of special events as assigned
  • Encourage opportunities for residents to share their interests and skills within the facility and within community settings
  • Maintain appropriate resident and department records including MDS-RAI documentation, evaluation of planned programs, tracking of individual participation through an online attendance system, and other departmental administrative tasks as assigned
  • The above tasks are representative but not all-inclusive

 Requirements:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Therapeutic Recreation require
  • Experience working in a Long-Term Care environment and working knowledge of dementia
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Strong focus on customer service excellence in the delivery of recreation initiatives
  • GPA trained
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR or willing to obtain
  • Background in Montessori based programming and Multi-Sensory environments for persons with dementia
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to facilitate and lead groups confidently
  • Must be/become knowledgeable of the Resident Bill of Rights and endeavour to promote it
  • Must support MOHLTC-Ministry of Health Long Term Care standards, as well as the policies and procedures of St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke
  • Must maintain the minimum availability of every other weekend and an additional 2 shifts per pay period

Personal Characteristics: 

  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to facilitate and engage persons with dementia.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently and as a team player.
  • Able to meet physical requirements necessary to carry out job effectively, which include: lifting, standing for extended lengths of time, walking, bending, crouching, and kneeling at regular frequencies throughout shift.
